February 20 2012 + mountain brook country club wedding recap – katey + brooks

Katey and Brooks were married in early October.  We were tickled when Katey called us to coordinate her wedding after we successfully coordinated her older sister’s wedding the previous June.  Katey wanted a classic color palette of green and white that fit perfectly with her beautiful navy floor-length bridesmaids dresses. Floral designer, Buffy Hargett, did a beautiful job bringing Katey’s vision to life. Thank you to photographer Beth Hontzas for sharing the wonderful photographs with us!

The ceremony took place at Shades Valley Presbyterian Church. The New Hope Baptist Church Gospel Choir not only sang songs throughout the ceremony, but celebrated with “Oh Happy Day” after the couple was announced husband and wife. After the recessional, the bridal party loaded a bus provided by Rare Transportation so they could ride together to the reception.

A beautiful reception was held at Mountain Brook Country Club, immediately following the ceremony.  The floral designer added a beautiful stone fountain to the front lawn of the country club to serve as a focal point as guests arrived. Here, the bride opted to incorporate white pumpkins as a nod to fall.

The cakes were designed by Magic Muffin Bakery. Katey chose a classic four-tier stucco design. Brooks chose to have his three favorite cakes – strawberry, peanut butter, and chocolate.

Guests danced the night away to the 14 Karat Gold Band.  Halfway through the evening, the couple passed out “Mr. & Mrs.” foam fingers and sunglasses. They were a huge hit with not only the guests, but the band! Additionally, since the groom is a graduate of The University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy!), ice artist, Nick Hartmann, made a Colonel Reb ice luge that the bartenders used to mix various martinis.

At the end of the evening, Katey and Brooks ran to the “getaway golfcart” while guests showered them with mini craft poms poms.  Congratulations Katey and Brooks! We had a blast coordinating your special day, and being able to celebrate with your family one last time!

February 17 2012 + first united methodist + park lane wedding recap – kati + michael

Kati and Michael were married last July in a fun and romantic celebration.  Kati found her dream wedding dress, a beautiful Judd Waddell gown, at The White Room Bridal Salon in Cahaba Heights. After introducing Kati to calligrapher Allison Banks, a match was made in heaven. Allison designed a one-of-a-kind personal monogram for the couple to use throughout their invitation suite. She was also responsible for the invitation’s calligraphy design.  One of the first decision’s Kati and Michael did (besides hiring your’s truly), was to hire Jerrod Brown to photograph their wedding.  The photos are stunning…thank you Jerrod for sharing them with M. Elizabeth Events!

Andy Hopper of KG Designs designed the beautiful “hot summer” florals in shades of pink, fuschia, and greens that complimented Kati’s pink Lula Kate floor-length bridesmaid’s dresses.  The groom’s boutonniere was a white calla lily to compliment the bride’s white and ivory bouquet.

The 6pm ceremony took place in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church in downtown Birmingham. The ceremony music was provided by the wonderfully talented string ensemble, the Cahaba River Strings.

The reception was held at Park Lane by Kathy G, located in the heart of English Village. Guests dined on Kathy G & Company favorites such as mini BLTs and roast beef sliders. Guests danced the night away to popular band, 2nd Coming.

Both cakes were designed by Diane Olexa, owner of Olexa’s Cafe. Kati chose a classic five-tier french vanilla buttercream cake, designed with alternating layers of swiss dots and cornelia lace.  Michael’s groom’s cake was a three-tier chocolate cake, drizzled with chocolate ganache, and adorned with sugared fruit.

As guests left, they were treated to a brightly colored candy bar, filled with the couple’s favorite candies such as sour patch kids, jelly beans, and reece’s cups. As Kati and Michael departed their reception, they ran through a tunnel of sparklers.

Congratulations Kati and Michael! We loved working with you in planning your wedding!

February 16 2012 + birmingham museum of art wedding recap – pam + bill

Pam and Bill were married this summer, and we had an absolute blast planning their wedding.  Pam and Bill met through their church, and they were truly absolutely, head over heels in love with one another. Pam wanted their wedding to be chic and beautiful, yet show their personalities. We believe we were truly able to achieve just that.

First things first – Pam worked with Allison Banks to create a custom calligraphy monogram.  Once the monogram was designed, Allison also designed the couple’s beautiful, simple and chic, letterpress invitation.  Pam purchased two dresses – a ceremony dress and a reception dress – at The Something Blue Shoppe in Hartselle.  Andy Hopper, head of KG Designs, was brought in to bring Pam’s chic and modern vision to life.

Photographer extraordinaire, Amelia Strauss, took these stunning photos of the couple throughout their wedding day.  Instead of the traditional church photos, we decided to photograph the bridal party throughout the Birmingham Museum of Art since their reception would take place there later that evening.

The couple said their “I Do’s” at Trinity United Methodist Church in a 6pm ceremony. Towering over the alter was an 8-foot cross made of the same luscious flowers that were apart of Pam’s bouquet.  Tied on each pew were handmade sashes, adorned with an “S”, the initial the couple now shared as a last name.

When guests arrived to the Museum, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour in the 8th Avenue Lobby.  The catering staff at A Social Affair passed delicious hors d’ouevres, along with specialty drinks made with Firefly vodka.

At the conclusion of the cocktail hour, guests were welcomed into the beautiful Museum cafe, which was fully draped in white fabric. Design Productions lit the room is a soft blue that complemented the bridesmaids beautiful dresses from Bridesmaids Inc.  Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner of fried turkey, quail, freshly shucked oysters, sushi, a trio of mac and cheese, and other delicious items, catered by A Social Affair.

The stunning cakes were designed by Jan O’Donnell.  The seven-tier brides cake was designed to mimic the dress the bride wore at the reception.  The groom’s cake was a replica of one of the runways at the Birmingham International Airport.  A model of the groom’s Cirrus, which he flies for recreation, sat next to the cake. Behind the groom’s cake was a collage of the couple’s engagement photos taken at the groom’s hangar.

The incredible band, Compozitionz, entertained guests throughout the night with their upbeat mix of motown and current top 40 hits.  One of our favorite aspects of the evening was Joy Varnell, a live event artist, that was onsite all afternoon to paint the event as it unfolded.

Pam and Bill’s wedding was so full of wonderful details, that we couldn’t leave any out.  During the reception, Pam briefly changed into a third wedding dress – her traditional red Chinese dress, symbolizing good luck and auspiciousness.  The silver goblets on the bride’s cake table, were hand etched with the couples new monogram.  Lastly, in going with the art-theme of the museum, Pam and Bill chose a thumbprint tree as their guest books.

As a nod to each of their hometowns, BBQ sauces from both Memphis (for the bride) and Birmingham (for the groom) were offered to the guests as they departed the wedding reception.  Attached to each favor was a thank you tag, adorned with the couples personalized monogram.

The bride and groom left through a shower of Flutter Fetti, to their antique Rolls Royce provided by Coats Classic Cars. Pam and Bill enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon in St. Barts, which Bill kept as a surprise to Pam until their arrival on the island.

Thank you Pam and Bill for letting us be apart of your special day! We wish you all the best!

January 4 2012 + fall engagement session – leslie + ben

Leslie and Ben are getting married in just a few weeks, and we are so excited to see this couple finally tie the knot.  They have been dating since they met in high school, and Leslie remembers doodling her soon-to-be groom’s last name on her notebooks.  At the end of January, Leslie will no longer have to wonder what her high school sweetheart’s last name will sound like with her name.  Rob Ingram took these beautiful engagement photos of the couple in Highland Park near downtown Birmingham on a lovely fall day. Check back with us next month for a full wedding recap after these high school sweethearts say “I do.”

Austin and Lee met through a mutual friend at a kickball party, organized by Austin, Market Owner for Birmingham Kickball.  After a year of dating, Austin surprised Lee with a trip to Napa Valley where he proposed on a balcony overlooking a beautiful vineyard (guys, take notes…how romantic!) The couple hired Arden Ward, owner of Arden Photography, to capture their special day.  Arden took these fun and modern photos of the couple at locations around downtown Birmingham.  Check back with us later this Spring for photos from this couple’s fabulous April wedding at American Village.

January 2 2012 + engagement session – ashley + bobby

Ashley and Bobby are two of the biggest Auburn fans we have ever met – so much so that they got engaged on the field at Jordan – Hare Stadium.  We are enjoying working with this sweet couple in planning their late summer 2012 wedding in Birmingham.  After our first consultation with Ashley, I knew the perfect photographer for her and Bobby – Stacy and Brandon Gresham with Simple Color Photography.  Their engagement photos turned out beautifully…we can’t wait to see the photos from their wedding day!

December 21 2011 + birmingham engagement session – leigh + taylor

They way they look at each other is simply heart-warming.  Leigh and Taylor are getting married next summer, and they are going to have quite the party at Avon Theatre! Their amazing photographer, Kelly Cummings of Spindle Photography took these incredible photos of the couple at various locations throughout downtown Birmingham. | December 20 2011 + chic birmingham engagement session – allison + alan |

This particular couple is pretty special to us as Alan is the younger brother to owner of M. Elizabeth Events, Meghan Cease.  Alan and Allison are getting married in April, and we are counting down the days.  When it came time to hire a photographer for this fabulous fete, we knew exactly who to call – Kelli and Daniel Taylor of Daniel Taylor Photography.

Kelli and Daniel took these beautiful, chic photos of Alan and Allison at the rustic  Swan Lake Stables. After they left Swan Lake Stables, they shed their boots and jeans and got gussied up for a night in Mountain Brook Village. This engagement session says so much about their personalities.  We cannot wait for the wedding…you’ll definitely want to stay tuned for some amazing photos!

December 19 2011 + alys beach wedding recap – emily + blane

Emily and Blane will always hold a special place in our hearts. Just three months before Emily and Blane said “I Do”, Emily’s beloved father passed away suddenly. “Big Daddy” as we all knew him, had taken a very energetic role in planning his baby girl’s wedding.  Knowing that her father would want her to continue with her wedding plans, Emily and Blane decided to relocate their wedding from Auburn, Alabama to Alys Beach, Florida.

All the vendors that had originally planned on going to Auburn for Emily and Blane’s wedding happily made plans to spend the weekend in Alys Beach.  Andy Hopper, Head Designer for KG Designs and Kathy Mezrano, owner of Kathy G & Company worked relentlessly throughout the day, which was plagued by rain showers, but they were determined that Emily have everything she dreamed of. Before Emily’s father passed away, he had told Andy that the most important thing to him was that Emily have an all pink tulip bouquet as that was her favorite flower.  Since tulips are nearly impossible to find during the summer, Emily’s father even joked about flying Andy to the Netherlands to pick fresh tulips.  On her wedding day, Andy surprised Emily with the most stunning tulip bouquet, that brought every person in the room to tears.

Emily’s stunning letterpress invitation was from the Lily Pulitzer design suite. Owner of Weddings Etc, Melissa Hill, was extremely helpful in working with Emily in choosing the perfect invitation for her wedding. Thank you to the awesome Kelli and Daniel Taylor of Daniel Taylor Photography for providing us with these beautiful photos from a very memorable weekend!

Emily’s beautiful gown was purchased from Alfred Angelo Bridal Salon.  Emily and Blane had originally wanted to get married on the beach, but due to off and on rain storms, they were forced to move the ceremony to under a tent at the reception site, Fonville Press.  Luckily, there was a pause in the rain long enough for Emily and Blane to take some beautiful photos on the lovely Alys Beach Green and nearby beach.

After the ceremony, guests celebrated with the new husband and wife at Fonville Press, a wine bistro within the Alys Beach community. Emerald Coast Catering did a wonderful job catering the early evening, heavy hors d’ouevres reception. Guests enjoyed marinated shrimp and grape tomato cocktail forks displayed in colorful rock salt, chicken salad croissants, and a fabulous slider station among other things.

In lieu of a bride and groom’s cake, Emily and Blane opted for various mini cupcakes from Dreamcakes Bakery, which we brought down from Birmingham.  Throughout the evening, Auburn-sensation, Tim Tyler rocked out the piano and kept the dancefloor full.

At the end of the evening, Emily and Blane left through a tunnel of sparklers to a beautiful white Lexas stretch limousine.  Congratulations Emily and Blane! We love you!
