October 28 2011 + seneca, south carolina engagement party – blair + rush

In mid-September, M. Elizabeth Events packed our bags and headed to Seneca, South Carolina to help execute an engagement party for Blair and Rush, our May 2012 couple mentioned in the previous post.  The engagement party was held on the weekend of the Clemson vs. Auburn football game, so naturally, the theme for the party was tailgating!  Allison R. Banks, calligrapher extraordinaire, designed the couple’s monogram, which was used not only on the navy cocktail napkins, but also on the navy koozies and the water-bottle labels. We absolutely adore when a couple chooses to carry a theme throughout their engagement and wedding planning, such as this monogram.  Allison R. Banks was also responsible for the beautiful calligraphy written in the couple’s guest book.  We would like to thanks Rebecca Perkins Photography for providing M. Elizabeth Events with these beautiful photos!

The menu consisted of southern favorites such as pigs in a blanket, mini shrimp and grits, and oyster shooters.  The local caterer did a wonderful job both on presentation and taste.

Serving as the centerpiece on the beautiful dining room table was a three-tiered Auburn cake, designed by Holly’s Cakes out of Belton, South Carolina.  It was truly eye-catching from the moment it arrived.

Congratulations, once again, to this sweet couple getting married next May in Birmingham.  We are counting down the days to your wedding, and we know you are to!

October 24 2011 + seneca, south carolina engagement session – blaire + rush

We love this couple. Love, love, love.  Blaire and Rush are planning a beautiful wedding for May of 2012.  We are thrilled to be working with both the bride and groom’s family to plan wonderful events throughout their wedding weekend.  While Blair and Rush are getting married in Birmingham, they decided to have their engagement session at the groom’s family home in Seneca, South Carolina.  We would like to thank Rebecca Perkins for sharing these beautiful photos with us!

Check back with us early next summer for a full wedding week recap from this precious couple!

October 12 2011 + brown memorial presbyterian + north river yacht club wedding recap – andrea + terrance

There are not enough words to describe how much I adored working with this precious, precious couple.  Recently named two of Birmingham’s “Most Beautiful People” by Birmingham Magazine, Andrea and Terrance, a former University of Alabama basketball standout, were married in July in Tuscaloosa.  Andrea and Terrance, both in pharmaceutical sales, met while they were working for competing drug companies.  Once engaged, Andrea was recommended to M. Elizabeth Events by a close family friend, and we would not have been more honored.  We hit the ground running and put together an all-star team of vendors for Andrea and Terrance’s big day.

The couple was married at Andrea’s childhood church, Brown Memorial Presbyterian in Northport.  Andrea found the perfect Junko Yoshioka gown at Ivory & White Bridal Boutique in Birmingham.   The bridesmaids dresses were purchased at Bella Bridesmaid.  Each of the ladies chose a black, floor-length gown that best suited them.  The variety of silhouettes photographed beautifully.  Rob Ingram did a beautiful job photographing this wedding.  Thank you Rob for all the wonderful photos!

Andrea chose a timeless color palette of whites with green.  Andy Hopper with KG Designs did an absolutely stunning job creating her florals.  Andrea smiled from ear to ear when she picked up her beautiful bouquet.  Antique broaches adorned each of the bouquets, for a small touch of “bling.”

After the ceremony, guests were invited to a cocktail reception at North River Yacht Club.  Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with specialty cocktails and passed hors d’ouvres while the bridal party finished pictures at the church.  Once the bride and groom arrived, the party started with Alvin Garrett and Just a Few Cats taking the stage.

Owner of It Take The Cake, Libby, designed both the bride and groom’s cake.  Andrea, with the help of calligrapher extraordinaire, Allison Banks, designed the couple’s married logo, which was seen throughout the wedding in places such as their invitation and wedding programs.  Andy Tolar of Design Productions was responsible for the beautiful lighting around the Yacht Club, as well as the elegant drape that was positioned behind the bride’s cake.

At the end of the night, Terrance carried his bride through a shower of rose petals as they departed for their honeymoon.  Congratulations Andrea and Terrance!  Thank you for letting us be apart of a beautiful night!

October 11 2011 + shades mountain baptist + matt jones gallery wedding recap – alyssa + chris

Alyssa and Chris met through work, fell madly in love, got engaged, and decided to get married on June 24, 2011.  The ceremony was held at Alyssa’s childhood church, Shades Mountain Baptist Church.  Chris Thomson with Rob Ingram Photography was with the bride and groom all day and captured these beautiful photos!

Alyssa chose a beautiful color palette of orange, pink, and yellow.  The bridesmaids wore cocktail length orange dresses, each adorned with a pink bow.  The bridesmaids also wore matching pink shoes.  The groomsmen wore tuxedos from Mr. Burch Formalwear.  The touch of pink in the ties were just perfect!  Alyssa’s beautiful floral design was done by Birmingham-legend, Dorothy McDaniel of Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market.  Alyssa carried a gorgeous bouquet of mango calla lilies, while the bridesmaids carried three yellow calla lilies, tied with bright ribbon made into streamers.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to The Matt Jones Gallery in Lakeview for a cocktail reception.  The reception was catered by Audrey Odom of Cakes and Catering by Audrey.  Not only did Audrey and her staff prepare the delicious food, but Audrey also designed Alyssa’s beautiful wedding cake.  Guests danced the night away to country rock band, Crooked Road.

At the end of the evening, Alyssa and Chris ran through a tunnel of sparklers as their guests waved goodbye to the newlyweds.  Congratulations Alyssa and Chris!  It was truly an honor working with a couple who was so madly in love!

October 11 2011 + st. mark’s episcopal + vestavia hills country club wedding recap – sandy + matt

Sandi and Matt went to the same high school in Birmingham, but did not meet until years later when they were both students at Auburn University.  After dating for nearly 5 years, Matt proposed to Sandi at a beautiful, scenic location overlooking Birmingham on January 4, 2010.  Matt and Sandi planned their afternoon wedding for June 24, 2011 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.  Sandi found her beautiful wedding gown at The White Room.  Sandi chose to work with Kathy Miller in regards to her floral design.  As always, Kathy did an incredible job putting the bride’s vision to life.  Thank you to Ann Wade Parrish for the excellent photos!

Sandi chose a lovely shade of blue for her bridesmaids dresses, which were purchased from Bella Bridesmaid.  Each bridesmaid wore a different silhouette, which is a popular choice among brides choosing Lula Kate dresses.  The groomsmen wore tuxedos rented from Mr. Burch Formalwear.

As Sandi and Matt headed to Vestavia Hills Country Club for the reception, they stopped at the place where Matt proposed for a few pictures.  These may be some of my favorite wedding day photos to date.  What a sweet moment for this sweet bride and groom!

After the reception, guests were invited to a sit-down dinner at Vestavia Hills Country ClubSonia Davis designed the place cards and table numbers that went on each of the guest tables.  Kathy Miller created tall floral arrangements which were incredibly stunning.  A number of the arrangements were designed using antique silver candelabras.  Throughout dinner, guests enjoyed music by Tim Tyler and the Dueling Pianos.

These absolutely fabulous wedding cakes were designed by Jan Moon, owner of Dreamcakes Bakery.  I absolutely love the creative design of both the bride’s cake, and the Auburn-inspired groom’s cake.

As each guest left the reception, they were treated to mini “Over The Moon” cupcakes from Dreamcakes Bakery.  “Over The Moon” cupcakes are the signature flavor of the popular Birmingham bakery.  At the end of the evening, Matt and Sandi ran through a shower of rose petals to their limousine provided by Acton Limo. Congratulations Sandi and Matt!  We absolutely adored working with you and your families!

September 19 2011 + the club rehearsal dinner – sandi + matt

One of our June couples, Sandi and Matt (you’ll learn more about them tomorrow!), asked us to plan and execute their rehearsal dinner and we gladly obliged!  They had chosen The View at The Club to hold the dinner because of the beautiful views of downtown Birmingham.  Since they were expecting close to 100 guests, we crafted the perfect room layout to ensure that everyone would be able to see and hear as the toasts were given at the end of the evening.  Sonia Davis, owner of Sonia Davis Designs, created the beautiful place cards and table numbers.  The fabulous husband and wife team, Kelli and Daniel Taylor, of Daniel Taylor Photography photographed the special evening.  Thank you Kelli and Daniel for the wonderful photographs!

The talented Kathy Miller designed the stunning arrangements at each table.  I must say that this color palette is one of my favorites! One thing brides should always remember when planning flowers for a seated dinner – make sure the arrangements are either short enough for your guests to see over…or tall enough that guests can see through the arrangements.  Thank you sweet Kathy for always making sure your arrangements are perfect!

As guests entered The View, they were greeted with several types of delicious passed hors d’oeuvres.  Once the cocktail hour had ended, guests were invited to sit down and enjoy a duet entree, followed by a trio of desserts.

Check back with us tomorrow for a full wedding recap from Sandi and Matt’s wedding day.  The photographs are beautiful, the flowers are stunning…this is one you will not want to miss!

September 19 2011 + first presbyterian + b&a warehouse wedding recap – jessica + britt

Jessica and Britt were married in early June at First Presbyterian Church, with a reception following at The B&A Warehouse.  The always fun Lucky Photography did a wonderful job capturing all the special moments throughout the day.  Jessica chose a classic, and very Southern color palette of green and white, with touches of pink.  The talented duo of Rachel Gaudel and Andy Boyles created the perfect design aesthetic for Jessica and Britt’s wedding day.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to the historic B&A Warehouse for a cocktail reception.  Guests enjoyed an absolutely mouth-watering menu of the bride and groom’s favorite southern fare.  Throughout the evening, the dance floor stayed full thanks to entertainment provided by Meet The Next.

The cakes were designed by Julie Hendricks of Sweet Magnolia. I just love the ornate design of Jessica’s cake.  The details are simply stunning.  Britt’s cake is exactly what a groom’s cake should be – fun!

As true Auburn fans, Jessica and Britt ran through a tunnel of orange and blue shakers as they headed to their beautiful 1952 Bentley, provided by Vintage Auto.

Congratulations Jessica and Britt.  We were honored to be apart of your special day!

September 16 2011 + covenant presbyterian + lincpoint wedding recap – lindsey + nathan

Nathan and Lindsey were such a delightful couple to work with. They were easy-going and laid-back, but I could tell that when the two of them got around their friends and family, there was nothing but constant laughter.  I met Lindsey shortly after Nathan proposed last fall.  We hit the ground running once Lindsey decided on an early June wedding. Lindsey’s aunt, a local floral designer with Four Seasons, did an amazing job bringing Lindsey’s vision to life.  Lindsey’s unique bouquet consisted of picasso calla lilies and cymbidium orchids.  Lindsey purchased her Monique Lhuillier Bliss gown at Ivory & White Bridal Salon in Crestline.  The bridesmaids wore floor-length navy dresses from Bella Bridesmaid, and the groomsmen wore tuxes from Mr. Burch Formalwear.  Camille Beasley of scb Photography did a wonderful job as the photographer for Lindsey and Nathan’s special day. Thank you, Camille, for these beautiful photos!

The ceremony was held at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Homewood.  Instead of the traditional altar arrangements, Lindsey’s aunt designed an 8 foot cross made out of beautiful green and white flowers.  It was the perfect backdrop in this gorgeous church full of dark wood.  White wreaths made out of hydrangea hung on the ends of designated pews to serve as pew markers.

After the ceremony, guests joined Lindsey and Nathan at LincPoint, a venue that on our first visit, they called “the one.”  Andy Tolar, owner of Design Productions, provided the pipe and drape, as well as the beautiful lighting that created the perfect atmosphere for this wonderful celebration.  Aztec Events & Tents provided all the wonderful rental items that helped dress this venue up appropriately.  The beautiful navy pintuck linens made the green and white flowers truly make a statement.

Kathy G. & Company did an excellent job creating the menu and catering the event.  The menu was full of southern favorites such as shrimp and grits and mini BLTs.  They also provided a selection of chocolate desserts to go along with the groom’s cake.

Jan O’Donnell did a wonderful job creating both the bride and groom’s cake.  Lindsey’s cake was a 5-tier french vanilla buttercream cake with floral dividers between each layer.  Nathan opted for the popular Krispy Kreme doughnut cake, covered in a chocolate ganache drizzle and chocolate covered strawberries.  Don’t they just look delicious?

We were able to book the popular band, Trotline, for the wedding reception.  Lindsey and Nathan’s guests danced all night long.  The string lights, provided by Design Productions,  were the perfect addition to the rustic patio outside LincPoint.  At the end of the evening, the new husband and wife departed through a sea of bubbles.  Congratulations to this sweet couple! We loved every minute of planning your wedding!

September 15 2011 + the tutwiler hotel wedding – eun + jonathan

I just adored this bride and groom.  It was one of those wedding days that I was sad to see come and go.  Eun and Jonathan were married in May at the beautiful historic Tutwiler Hotel in downtown Birmingham.  Ladies, if you are looking for the perfect venue to have both your ceremony and reception…well, this is it.  Patricia Conrad and her staff at The Tutwiler are the best of the best!  We met Eun within a few days of her engagement, and enjoyed working with her throughout the months leading up to her engagement.  Eun knew immediately that she wanted to work with the fabulous husband and wife couple, Tera and Wes Wages of Armosa Studios.  I wish I could share all the photos with you…they were all just stunning.  Andy Hopper of KG Designs executed Eun’s vision immediately and designed the most beautiful florals, photographed below.

Eun and Jonathan decided to share a special “first look” so that all their pictures would be finished before the ceremony.  Even though the Alabama heat reached over 90 degrees that day, Eun’s fabulous hair and makeup team of Louise Robertson (makeup) and Curt Calloway (hair) made sure she was picture-perfect all day.  The “first look” took place on the front steps of the hotel, a perfect backdrop for their beautiful ceremony.  Eun’s dress was purchased from The White Room Bridal Salon, and the groom wore a tuxedo from Men’s Warehouse.

The groomsmen and bridesmaids were absolutely fabulous.  Never once did they complain about the heat…instead, they made the most of the beautiful day and enjoyed spending time with the wonderful bride and groom.  Our favorite moment of the day was when the groomsmen flagged down an ice cream truck as it was circling Lynn Park during their photos.  Who says that taking wedding photos can’t be fun?

Eun decided on a color palette of white and green with a touch of lavender, which Andy Hopper executed beautifully.  The bridesmaids wore beautiful lavender dresses by Priscilla of Boston that were purchased at Bella Bridesmaid in Homewood.  The flat taffeta strapless ball gowns had a flourish detail on the center of the bodice and a pleated skirt.

After the ceremony, guests were invited into the ballroom at The Tutwiler Hotel and treated to a cocktail reception.  Birmingham-based DJ, Amerson Events, did a great job of entertaining the guests throughout the night and keeping them on the dance floor.  They also provided the beautiful lighting for the reception.

The drop dead gorgeous cakes were designed by Barb Sullivan of Barb’s Cakes.  Eun’s cake sat atop a stunning floral base, created by Andy Hopper.  Jonathan, a tride-and-true Alabama fan, opted for a one-tier chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache and a houndstooth hat. Both cakes truly stole the show!

Eun and Jonathon left through a tunnel of sparklers at the end of the night.  Congratulations to another happy M. Elizabeth Events bride and groom!  We were thrilled to be apart of your special day, and wish you nothing but the very best as you begin your life together!

September 8 2011 + lake martin, childrens harbor engagement – alan + allison

I am so excited to be able to blog about such a special event.  On June 24, my younger brother, Alan, proposed to his girlfriend of 11 months at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin.  Although the rain through us all for a loop, it was still an unforgettable evening.  Allison is never without her trusty camera, so we knew a photographer was a must-have.  I called David Shirk with Unplugged Photography, and without hesitation, he agreed to be our secret photographer.  Andy Hopper of KG Designs, created beautiful arrangements to fit the occasion, and Allison Banks designed a unique, one of a kind, monogram to depict Alan and Allison’s married monogram.

As for the story – Allison had just spent a week at the beach with her family, and Alan had promised they would have “date night” at Willow Point Country Club when they arrived to the lake after she returned from the beach.  It was nothing out of the ordinary for Alan and Allison to hop in the boat and have dinner somewhere on the lake, so to Allison, this seemed like any other night they would have while visiting Lake Martin.  Just before they were to leave for dinner, I called Alan asking him to go take measurements at Children’s Harbor for a wedding I was fictitiously having the next day.  Again, to Allison, this was nothing out of the ordinary.  When they arrived to Children’s Harbor, Allison noticed a few decorations, but assumed they were details I had put together for the wedding she thought I was planning.  Much to her surprise, this was all her her, and would soon become the place she would say “yes” to becoming Mrs. Alan Cease.

After Allison said “yes!”, Alan then surprised her with dinner at their favorite restaurant on Lake Martin, Spring House.  Allison was under the impression that her dad was working at the hospital, so they would celebrate with both families later on that next week.  Little did she know, that both the Cease and Stewart families were waiting in a private dining room at Spring House to celebrate their engagement.

After dinner, Allison though the surprises were over and everyone was heading their separate ways back home.  While Allison and Alan drove the boat home, we all congregated back at the lake house for the final surprise of the evening.  Allison, a Samford alum, has always dreamed of getting married in Reid Chapel, one of Birmingham’s most coveted ceremony locations.  When they docked the boat and walked up onto the lawn, Allison assumed it was a celebratory cake.  After a few minutes, she realized the cake said “Alan and Allison, April 14, 2012.”  Alan had booked Reid Chapel and confirmed their wedding date – April 14, 2012.  Dreamcakes Bakery did a wonderful job designing cake that depicted Allison’s final surprise!

Thank you to everyone who had a part in this special day.  Congratulations to Alan and Allison – April 14, 2012 will be here before you know it!
