m. elizabeth events: repondez s’il vous plait

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Couples planning a wedding no doubt work around financial considerations – and the biggest cost factor is the guest list. It can be frustrating when guests don’t consider the importance of following proper RSVP etiquette. If you’re a bride-to-be, consider the following tips to help convey the correct information to your guests. Avoid potential confusion before it starts!

-Send Save the Date announcements four to six months before the wedding, send invitations six to eight weeks in advance.

-Make sure to provide the date, time and hotel information. Include locations {and maps if possible} of both the ceremony and reception site. The more information that’s provided the better – it allows guests to make an educated decision on whether or not they’re able to attend.

-On the outer and inner envelope, list the name of each individual invited. If you’re limited on guest space, you can ensure there are no unexpected visitors by listing the invited individual or couple’s name on their response card as well. If they choose to bring additional guests {such as children or a new beau} the breach of etiquette is theirs, not yours.

-On the response card, include a “please respond by” date. Choose a date that allows you enough time to adjust the catering order and other arrangements, if necessary.

If you’re a guest: don’t take the liberty of inviting someone not on the invitation. Reply to an invitation right away {even if you’re declining} so the bride or groom won’t have to track you down later. The only time a reply isn’t necessary is if it indicates “regrets only.” If you’ve RSVP’d but later realize you can’t attend, let them know as soon as possible. It’s bad manners to simply not show up.

**In a world of instant communication {Twitter, Facebook, e-mail} don’t neglect the art of filling out the reply card and dropping it back in the mail. The bride, her family, the wedding planner, and everyone involved in the planning process will be forever grateful.**

lauren + frank engagement

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Lauren and Frank met while students at Auburn University, and will be married later this month.  The ceremony will take place at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with a reception following at one of my favorite venues, The Club.  David Robertson, Jr. of Robertson Photography in Montgomery captured these sweet pictures of the couple in locations around Montgomery and Lake Martin, two meaningful locations to the bride and groom.  You are not going to want to miss this wedding recap, so check back with us in a few weeks for more pictures.

wedding recap – sherry + kyle part 2

Monday, July 12th, 2010

In my last post (and yes, I’ll admit it has been a few days…hey, it’s been busy around here!), I recapped the first part of Sherry and Kyle’s May wedding at The Lodge at Lake Guntersville.  In this next installment, we have some gorgeous details from their reception.  All photos are from the fantastic Robinson Design Studio!

We continued Sherry’s color palette of black and pink into the grand ballroom. A mixture of short and tall table arrangements, consisting of gerber daisies, peonies, hydrangea, and roses, provided for a colorful background to the white and black tablecloths.  The delicious cakes were from Albertville Home Bakery.  I loved the simple elegance of Sherry’s cake…and I am always a sucker for a well-used monogram!

After guests enjoyed a cocktail hour on the terrace, they were invited inside to a southern buffet catered by the staff at The Lodge at Lake Guntersville.  During this time, we opened the doors into the main entry way and guests were surprised with a beautiful candy bar in Sherry’s signature color…PINK!  Guests certainly enjoyed the nice surprise once they finished their meal.  Guests were able to fill custom-made gift bags and take the candy to go!

After the party started to wind down, the newlyweds were showered with pink rose petals, and headed off to their villa in a golf cart.  Sherry and Kyle enjoyed a beautiful honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas.  Congratulations guys…we wish you nothing but the absolute best!

kalli + grant engagement

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Kalli and Grant met while they were students at Auburn University, and therefore decided to tie the knot in the city that means the most to them as a couple.  On July 24, Kalli and Grant will become Mr. and Mrs. in an afternoon ceremony at Auburn United Methodist Church, with a reception following at Greystone Mansion.  I began working with this sweet, sweet bride in September, and cannot wait to see this wedding unfold.  Check back with M. Elizabeth Events in a few week for more pictures from photographer Terra Baggett.
